5 Creative Uses for Coconut Oil

Moisturizer: Since your skin absorbs what you put on it, it's important to choose your products carefully.
Simply rub it in like lotion and let it absorb into the skin.
It might feel a little greasy at first but it will be absorbed and the trick is to only use a small amount- a little goes a long way.
Some people have even replaced their facial moisturizer with coconut oil.
You can try it out and see how it suits your skin type.
Some claim that it heals breakouts and reverses the signs of aging.
Deodorant: I make my own deodorant to avoid the harsh chemicals in the store-bought brands, especially aluminum which could cause cancer.
I'm not going to take a risk with that! Simply melt 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil + 1 Tablespoon Shea Butter or Cacao Butter + 1 Teaspoon Cornstarch + 2 Teaspoons Baking Soda.
Remove from heat and add essential oils if you want your deodorant to be scented (I personally like a combination of grapefruit, jasmine and peppermint).
Add to your own container and apply after you shower.
You can find plenty of recipes online with Google if you want more options.
Conditioning Treatment: If you have dry or damaged hair, this is a great natural remedy.
Heat a few tablespoons of coconut oil and allow it to become liquid, then apply to clean, damp hair, using more where there is more damage.
You can then cover your head with a shower cap and a warm towel (or apply heat with a blow dryer) to increase the effectiveness of the treatment.
Wait 20-30 minutes and shampoo out.
Oil Pulling: I've never heard of this until I saw an article about it a few months ago.
It's an excellent way to detox and support oral health.
MindBodyGreen has a fantastic post about how to do it and what benefits it can bring to your health.
I like to do it when I first wake up and take my morning shower so I can get two things done at one time.
Cooking: Coconut oil is great for high heat cooking.
When used in moderate amounts, natural coconut oil is healing and delicious; this is because of the lauric acid that boosts immunity.
Don't worry, your food will not turn out to be coconut flavored! Nutiva Organic Coconut Oil is a great brand to use because it is cold-pressed, organic, pure and natural.
